Conductor, composer and violist, was born in Ancona, and studied at the Conservatory “G. Rossini” in Pesaro, graduating with highest honors. He has conducted numerous symphony and chamber orchestras from Italy and abroad. He is the Artistic Director for Innovation of the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini, Artistic Director of the Chamber Orchestra of Bologna and Viola Professor at the Conservatory “L.D’Annunzio” in Pescara. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras, in duo and in numerous chamber ensembles, winning first prizes in national and international competitions and performing in some of the most prestigious Italian concert halls (Sala Verdi and Teatro alla Scala – Milan, Teatro Comunale – Bologna, Parco della Musica – Rome, and others) and abroad.
His recordings and radio broadcasts have achieved recognition as “CD of the month” in the leading magazine’s review “CD Classica”, and great reviews on Italian and foreign periodicals, including “Piano Time” (Italy), “Diapason” (France), “Fanfare” (USA), “The clarinet” (USA). RAI International TV channel has recently dedicated to his an entire program to his works, conducted by Valentina Lo Surdo.
As a conductor and composer, he collaborates with Italian and foreign artists, including Andrea Bocelli, Erwin Schrott, Eddie Daniels, Gustav Kuhn, Cecilia Gasdia, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Nicola Alaimo, Anna Maria Chiuri, Valeria Esposito, Andrea Griminelli , Valeria Moriconi, Federico Mondelci, Enrico Dindo, Domenico Nordio, Anna Serova, Corrado Giuffredi, Danilo Rossi, Giorgio Zagnoni, Sara Brightman.
Many of his premieres were performed by some of the most important international symphonic orchestras in famous venues like: Carnegie Hall in New York, La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Euro Radio concerts broadcasting, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Pavarotti in Modena, Ministry of Culture-Rome, Hermitage Theatre in St. Petersburg, Ural Philharmonic Orchestra, National Chamber Orch. After the historic interpretation of the actress Valeria Moriconi in the title role, his opera “Montessoriana”, on the occasion of the Centenary celebrations for Maria Montessori 1907- 2007, was performed and conducted by him in Sweden, United States of America and Rome in the Sala Sinopoli Auditorium Parco della Musica.
In 2013/14 Season, the Theatre Pavarotti in Modena commissioned him a new opera, Olympia.2000, which debuted with great acclaim from audiences and critics (reviews by Guido Barbieri on “Repubblica”, and Federico Capitoni on “Classic Voice”). One year after the death of the famous pianist and composer Armando Trovajoli, Roberto Molinelli was called as a conductor and composer, to pay tribute to him in a series of concerts with the participation of the actor Enrico Montesano, re-writing for symphony orchestra many the works which Maestro Trovajoli composed for cinema and theater.
He also collaborated with famous artists of popular music like Lucio Dalla, Enrico Ruggeri, Alexia, Mario Lavezzi, and he composed music for Films and TV. One of his original compositions was chosen as the soundtrack of Barilla’s advertising campaign, broadcasted from 1999 to 2006 on television, radio and in movie theaters.
He has orchestrated some of the most important international successes of Andrea Bocelli, like Time to say goodbye, Romanza, and Canto della Terra, performed all over the world. He arranged and conducted the RAI TV Orchestra at Festival Di Sanremo, editions 2005 and 2009, winning first place in the vote of the Quality Jury of the Festival for the best arrangement.
He was member and President of the Jury of SanremoLab – Accademia della Canzone di Sanremo for three consecutive years. He is Artistic Director for Innovation of the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini, since January 2009.
